toro is the decade-long collaboration between portuguese architects Rodrigo Castro Pereira and Tomás Palmares, whose early professional experiences span from London to Santiago de Chile - working with Pritzker Prize laureates Sir Norman Foster and Alejandro Aravena - but later converge back in Lisbon.

What drives toro is the challenge to tap each project's full potential. This means deeply understanding the client’s needs, the program’s requirements, the site’s characteristics and the specific opportunities and risks at stake.

Ultimately, the goal is to craft enduring, effective and engaging design solutions.

who are we?

rodrigo castro pereira

Rodrigo began his career in London in 2004, working with Pritzker Prize laureate Sir Norman Foster at Foster+Partners.

After returning to Lisbon in 2009, he worked with Risco on competitions such as the Algarve Hospital.

In 2010 he moved to Costa Lopes where he lead multidiciplinary teams designing large-scaled projects located in Angola.

From 2014 on, together with Tomás, he has renovated housing buildings and apartments with real estate developer investdesign - from prospection to after-sales - while also developed several architectural designs as toro.

tomás palmares

Tomás began his career in Santiago de Chile in 2011, working with Pritzker Prize laureate Alejandro Aravena at his do-tank ELEMENTAL.

In 2017 he became ELEMENTAL’s Lisbon local representative for the design and construction stages of EDP’s headquarters II, completed in 2024.

From 2014 on, together with Rodrigo, he has renovated housing buildings and apartments with real estate developer investdesign - from prospection to after-sales - while also developed serveral architectural designs as toro.
